wine stats
Sicilian sunshine in a glass. This is 100% Carricante from one of southern Italy's largest organic wineries — fresh, mineral, with honey and wildflower aromatics that make you want to book a flight. Cantine Ermes' No Compromise range does exactly what the name says: organic wine without cutting corners.
Carricante is an indigenous Sicilian grape traditionally grown on the volcanic slopes of Mount Etna. It thrives in limestone and gypsum-rich soils, producing white wines with good acidity, mineral backbone, and a freshness that defies Sicily's warm reputation. This isn't heavy, sun-baked Mediterranean white — it's bright, lifted, and genuinely food-friendly. At 12.5% ABV, it sits in the sweet spot between refreshing and substantial.
On the nose, delicate honey and intense fresh fruit aromatics with wildflowers. The palate is fresh and harmonious with good acidity that keeps everything alive. Hints of citrus and a mineral finish that speaks to the limestone soils. This is a white wine that rewards attention but doesn't demand it — equally good as background to a meal or the focus of it.
Cantine Ermes was founded in 1998 in Sicily's Belice Valley and has grown into one of the biggest organic wineries in southern Italy. Their No Compromise range is exactly that — certified organic production without the shortcuts that ""organic"" sometimes hides behind. The Carricante grapes are harvested in late August, fermented at controlled temperatures in stainless steel, and handled with care throughout. Clapton Craft's strength is finding wines like this — producers doing serious work that most UK shops never discover. Cantine Ermes is a big operation by organic standards, but their No Compromise range shows that scale doesn't have to mean compromise (the name isn't accidental). Clapton Craft spotted the quality and brought it to the UK. Also from Clapton Craft at Natty: Marzemino Rosso Frizzante, Moinho Velho Vinho Verde, and Tradizione Antica Prosecco. Anyone who loves white wine and wants to try something beyond Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Grigio. Carricante is the kind of grape that makes you realise how much variety Italy actually has beyond the familiar names. Perfect with fish and seafood, grilled vegetables, soft goat cheese, or white meat. Also a great warm-weather sipper on its own.
