English rosé from Hampshire's New Forest, made by a Swiss-trained oenologist who doesn't do things by the book. The Rosé from The Wharie Experience is minimal-intervention pink wine with real personality — the kind of bottle that makes you rethink what English wine can be.
This isn't safe, bland pink wine designed to offend nobody. Guillaume Lagger makes The Rosé with the same minimal-intervention philosophy he applies to everything at The Wharie Experience — let the fruit express itself, don't mask it, and trust the process. The result is a rosé with actual presence. It tastes like where it's from and who made it, which is more than most rosés can claim.
Guillaume trained at Changins in Switzerland — one of Europe's most respected wine schools — before settling in Hampshire. That combination of rigorous technical knowledge and a willingness to work with the English climate rather than against it is what makes The Wharie Experience wines distinctive. He understands the science but chooses to step back and let nature lead. The Rosé is proof that approach works beautifully for pink wine too.
The English wine scene is growing fast, but a lot of it still chases Champagne or tries to replicate what warmer regions do naturally. Guillaume goes the other way. He's planted 7,500 PIWI hybrid vines and is building something genuinely original in the New Forest. The Rosé sits in that tradition — not copying Provence, not pretending to be somewhere it's not. Just honest Hampshire rosé made with care.
The Wharie Experience is a micro winery, cidery, and brewery near Sway in Hampshire's New Forest National Park. Guillaume Lagger founded it in 2020 on his wife's family farm, combining Swiss winemaking training with English terroir and a passion for PIWI hybrid varieties. It's one of the most exciting small-scale operations in English wine right now — and you can visit by appointment for tastings and vineyard tours. Browse The Wharie Experience range at Natty.
Also from The Wharie Experience: Orion 2022 — a light, aromatic white made from the Orion PIWI grape.
